Erasmus Policy Statement
Nuh Naci Yazgan University (NNYU) is officially founded by Kayseri Higher Education and Social Aid Foundation (KHESAF) in 2009. Although, NNYUis newly founded, the supporting KHESAF exhibits unyielding determination in supporting social, cultural and health related projects and activities since 1972. This includes grants to outgoing teaching staff and students. Erciyes University, which is the leading public university in the region, still recognises the initial efforts of KHESAF in its early years with deep gratitude. With this esteemed experience and unrelenting determination it is no doubt NNYU will fulfil its academic vision which is to become a world-class university by providing education of the highest standards.
Today NNYU provides students with learning possibilities in 8 first cycle educational programmes: Civil Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Political Science and Public Administration, Architecture, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing and Health Services; and 2 second cycle programmes: Economics, Business Administration. As part of its strategic plan, NNYU is committed to achieve excellence in education, management and research, aiming to provide competence skills for nowadays demanding labour market needs. The courses are structured within modular framework, and ECTS is adapted and employed as envisioned in the Bologna accord. Also certified short courses and specialist seminars have been designed and will be delivered shortly to improve competences and to upgrade skills of professional workers in the framework of Lifelong Learning Programme.
The participation in the Erasmus Programme will enable our students, lecturers and other staff to gain new knowledge and skills, to exchange experiences with their European colleagues, to improve the knowledge of foreign languages and to get to know different cultures. In order to ensure these activities and relations, NNYU has adopted a strategy for mobility and international cooperation where the following objectives have been emphasized for the coming 5 years:
1. %30 Academic Staff Mobility: NNYU intends to place a special focus on raising the level of excellence in research and secure its long term competitiveness. One of the key strategies in this regard is to participate /develop international research projects. The EU framework programme for research and Innovation Horizon 2020 is the perfect opportunity to improve Universities' reputation for international involvement. In this sense academic staff mobility is vital to identify complementary, talented, creative partners and initiate collaborative and joined research.
2. %10 Student Mobility: NNYU recognises the educational establishments play a vital role in the process of international understanding and co-operation. Therefore NNYU is dedicated to providing its students with a varied education with an international influence and striving to expand student mobility. Increasing the number of bilateral agreements and exchanges remain as the prime aim. Every department has an Erasmus coordinator who provides academic and practical advice to exchange students and closely works with the International Relations Office. As a newly founded University, short term plans for student mobility only covers Bachelor degree students. The official educational language of the university is Turkish so, at least 4 courses for each programme is planned to be translated in English to facilitate hosting of foreign students.
3. %5 Work Mobility: NNYU sees work mobility vital in order to help students to adapt to the requirements of the EU-wide labour market; to develop specific skills including language skills and to improve understanding of the economic and social culture of the target country. Thus, NNYU will promote work mobility and encourage its students through a series of seminars.
Turkey has strong and historical ties with Balkan countries such as Macedonia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece and Bulgaria; also have blood ties with some Central Asian Republics such as Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan. This makes Balkan and Central Asia countries as the natural target groups of NNYU for student and staff mobility. However, in the near future NNYU is eager to extent its geographical scope to cover Central, Northern and Southern Europe. Namely Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia form Central Europe; Norway, Sweden, and United Kingdom from Northern Europe; Spain, Italy, and Cyprus from Southern Europe are identified as our major target groups for the coming 5 years period.
